The Boutique Narrowboats are in the news again this week, with a fabulous review from the team behind Market Harborough Living. The magazine offers news and lifestyle features, and we are delighted with their article which followed their stay on Marbled White.
“As soon as we peered down the hatch,” writes Clare and Nicholas Rudd-Jones, “we were amazed by the level of finish – stylish furniture… a Nespresso machine and a wine fridge no less.”
Their weekend break started from Union Wharf Marina in Market Harborough, where they met the team from Boutique Narrowboats. Trainer, Chris, gave them a comprehensive handover of their canal boat. He went through all the safety essentials as well as teaching them how to operate the boat. From there they cruised off towards Foxton Locks, mooring up for the night near The Black Horse pub and enjoying the wonderful views from the garden.
The couple’s initial nerves about handling a 60 foot narrowboat eased the following day as they set off towards Foxton Locks. The skilled volunteer lock keepers from the Canal and River Trust aided their ascent through the longest staircase locks in Britain.
Their next adventure came in the form of Husbands Bosworth tunnel, which is narrow and dark, but wide enough to allow two boats to pass. Luckily they didn’t need to put their manoevering skills to the test and they cruised on to Welford without incident.
Canal boat holiday recommendation
It sounds as if Clare and Nicholas had a whale of a time, learning new skills and sharing laughs along the way. We are really grateful for their kind words about their trip and hope it has sparked a lifelong love of our beautiful canals.
“Would we recommend this holiday?” they ask. “You bet. Truly a boutique experience in the boat…tranquility throughout the trip… very mentally refreshing.”
